A new very fast SATA hard drive has just come onto the market from the company ADATA. It’s called the S501 Version 2. This is a new solid state drive which uses the 6Gb/s SATA interface. It has a rated read speed of 355MB/s although most test reports claim higher than this up to 420MB/s and a write speed of 215 MB/s
This simply means that here in RSA we now have access to the fastest solid state hard drives in the world. But… <there’s always a BUT, but for a change it is good news >…
- You will need one of the very latest motherboards that supports the 6Gb/s SATA interface as well as USB3 .
- The AMD series 700 and 800 motherboard chipsets realize this speed best. That means an AMD CPU as well which are much cheaper than the Intel high-end CPU’s
So, particularly if your main application software is happy with the AMD CPU and doesn’t insist on an Intel chip, the fastest machine is now no longer the most expensive when considering the motherboard/CPU/support chipset assembly.
